…Warn against misinformation
The Benue State Police Command has reaffirmed its role as the lead security agency tackling banditry and violent crime in the state. The Command acknowledged recent security breaches in Apa, Logo, Katsina-Ala, Ukum, Gwer East, and Guma Local Government Areas, but said measures are in place to restore calm.
To address the situation, the Command is continuously reviewing and reinforcing its operational strategies for affected communities. It also cautioned against the spread of unverified reports and misleading information, urging the public to rely on official channels for updates to avoid undermining ongoing security operations.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Edet Udeme, in a statement on Wednesday said, “as part of its response, tactical teams remain deployed to flashpoints, hinterlands, and other vulnerable areas. Targeted clearance operations are also underway to flush out criminal elements. These interventions have disrupted criminal activities, led to arms recoveries, and strengthened security presence in impacted communities”
The statement noted that the Command has warned all persons involved in cattle rustling, including those who buy, shelter, or benefit from stolen livestock. “Intelligence findings indicate that these acts drive recurring violence and reprisals”
The Command stated that anyone directly or indirectly linked to cattle rustling or handling its proceeds will be treated as an accomplice to banditry and prosecuted. “Residents are urged to shun these unlawful acts and assist security agencies with credible information to support ongoing operations”
According to the statement, Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Ifeanyi Emenari, assured residents of sustained efforts to safeguard lives and property. He noted that officers have shown remarkable commitment and sacrifice in the line of duty, and stressed that all persons found culpable will face justice.
