Gov Mutfwang Joins APC, Cites Plateau Progress

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has officially joined the All Progressive Congress (APC), citing the best interest of the state and its citizens as the reason for his decision. He made this announcement on Friday at Government House, Jos, while addressing APC executives and members, stating that he resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to challenging situations

Governor Mutfwang noted that he has taken over the leadership of the APC from Sen. Simon Lalong, saying he had been yearning to lead the party politically, and God has given him victory. “When I became governor, I prayed that God would cause Lalong to fall into my hands, and today I have captured him.”

Recall that Governor Mutfwang had sent a resignation notice to his former political camp, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), informing them that he had defected.

Speaking on the challenges he faced with the APC at the tribunal after the 2023 elections, Mutfwang said, “I went to the Supreme Court without knowing anyone, but some persons seated here with me said they knew whom to approach, but I was victorious.” He added, “It’s God who gives power.”

Mutfwang noted, “Who would have thought that Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi and I would be sitting at the same table like this, but as God designed and desired, here we are today.”

Governor Mutfwang, referring to top APC members in the state who had hindered him from joining the APC, promised that his decision to join the APC was for the good of all citizens. “Plateau is bigger than any one of us. Today, I’m here as your governor; tomorrow could be anyone of you. So, let’s work together and develop Plateau State.”

The Governor said his administration is an all-inclusive government. “Those I’m leaving in the PDP are not my enemies; I will continue to hold them in high esteem. We will continue to respect our elders and all those who supported us in our journey as a government. I practice grassroots politics.”

“This party (APC) we are entering into today is large enough to accommodate everyone,” he said.

Earlier, the state APC chairman, Hon. Rufus Bature, said all newly joined members of the APC, including the Governor, have equal privileges in the party.

The Governor was formally received into the APC fold at the Party secretariat at Kalwa House, Jos. The event was attended by numerous Plateau residents, including those previously considered enemies of the Mutfwang administration.

The governor’s decision to join the APC has been seen as a strategic move to align Plateau State with the Federal Government’s policies and enhance growth and development. He has also pledged to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign in 2027
