The Nasarawa State Government has allocated one electric car, two electric tricycles to the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) with the aim to ease mobility on campus thereby supporting higher education and sustainable development.
Receiving the official allocation documents on Friday in Lafia, the Vice‑Chancellor of FULafia, Prof Shehu Abdul Rahman said the vehicles will directly improve students movement across the sprawling campus and support academic and administrative logistics.
“We assure the state government of strict compliance with all repayment terms and we will ensure the assets are managed prudently through FULafia Consult,” he said.
Reacting to the development, Dr Fatima Adamude, Director of Linkages and Advancement, expressed delight at the inclusion of FULafia in the scheme and pledged robust coordination between the University and State authorities.
Also speaking, the University Registrar, Dr Nuradeen Abdu lauded the state government’s commitment to cutting emissions while enhancing local socio‑economic activity.
He called for vigilant monitoring to guarantee optimal and sustainable use of the new electric vehicles .
The vehicles were allocated as part of the state government’s initiative for the “Clean Energy Empowerment Scheme”, to distribute eco‑friendly transport to cooperatives, youth groups and public institutions.
It would be recalled that Governor Abdullahi Sule last year rolled out over 100 electric cars and 50 electric tricycles as revolving‑loan assets to various beneficiaries across the state.
The programme has been commended as one of Nigeria’s first large‑scale electric‑vehicle empowerment drives.
