The Nigeria Police Force, Plateau State Command, on Saturday, paraded 22 suspects before the press at its headquarters in Jos. While presenting the suspects, the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Bassey, stated that under his leadership, criminal elements would not find peace in the state.
CP Bassey disclosed that the suspects were already providing useful information that could lead to the arrest of other criminal elements, including bandits. He added that some of those apprehended were suspected to be informants for banditry gangs.
According to the police, the suspects include a woman identified as a child trafficking specialist, four individuals accused of engaging in unlawful acts, two suspected rapists, and three kidnappers allegedly involved in the abduction of a police constable trainee.
Items recovered from the suspects include a cache of arms and weapons such as three locally fabricated AK-47 rifles, pistols, knives, charms, and two mobile phones reportedly seized from victims. One of the armed robbers was alleged to have attempted to rob a female Point-of-Sale (POS) operator at gunpoint, using live ammunition.
CP Bassey assured that all suspects would be charged to court upon the completion of investigations. He also commended members of the public for their cooperation, which contributed significantly to the success of the operation.
