The Nigeria Police Force, Plateau State Command, has confirmed the arrest of seven suspects, including a man identified as Yakubu Abdullahi, who was allegedly dressed in military attire, in connection with the recent renewed attacks in Jos.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Alfred Alabo, disclosed that the suspected military impersonator was found in possession of a fake identity card.
“So far, the Command has arrested seven (7) suspects, including one Matthew Musa, 27, who was apprehended with two locally made firearms, and one Yakubu Abdullahi, 26, who was wearing a military uniform, along with an extra shirt and a forged Nigerian Military School identity card. The suspects are currently under investigation at the State CID and will be charged to court upon conclusion,” the statement read.
Alabo further revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, has deployed additional personnel to troubled areas to ensure the restoration of peace.
The statement also warned that perpetrators of crime would not be allowed to continue their violent acts.
“The CP hereby warns all criminal elements who intend to use this situation as an avenue to cause mayhem within the state that the Command will not hesitate to deal with them severely in accordance with the law. He further warned that the Command will not stand by and watch lawless hoodlums turn the state into a theatre of violence,” it added.
Following the recent developments in Jos, President Bola Tinubu visited the Plateau State capital on Thursday to commiserate with the governor and the people of the state. Meanwhile, as part of measures to safeguard the lives of students and staff of the University of Jos, the institution’s management has made special arrangements to evacuate students to safer locations.
