An African Oasis Studio film, directed by Dr. Abel Erebe, an Igede filmmaker based in Brazil, and edited by Anani Thomas, entitled When The Gun Spoke Twice, premiered on May 1, 2026, at Ekason Signature, KM 4, Old Otukpo Road, Makurdi.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Governor of Benue State, Dr. Sam Ode, said the Igede people are known for diligence and commitment in whatever profession they choose.
“The Igede people of North Central Nigeria are indeed serious about life. They have moved from the backstage of marginalization to the front stage in the creative industry, medicine, information technology, robotics, etc.
“Go all over the world, go to Australia, go to the U.S., you will see them, and they are doing well in their chosen professions. This is a lesson we have learned: that even when people are marginalized, the best in them can come out if they are determined. And we have witnessed this today in the Igede nation,” he commended.
Earlier in his address, the project coordinator, Mr. Joxzy Otor, said the epic movie is adjudged to be world-class and aimed at promoting Igede culture globally. “It is the first Igede cinematic movie of its kind, bringing together a unique blend of indigenous storytelling, authentic performances, and high production standards.
“This film is not only entertainment but also a deliberate effort to preserve and project the Igede cultural heritage for future generations.
“It is a powerful story about love, power, and victory within the Igede community of Benue State. It is the cultural history and story of the Igede nation. The idea is to showcase our culture to the outside world.
“We have seen the Yorubas, Igbos, and other majority ethnic groups in Nigeria projecting and expressing their customs and cultures through movies, and a lot of people believe that minority tribes do not have cultures and do not count. Hence, we are here as Igede people to project our culture and tell our story to the entire international community,” he emphasized.
The well-planned and structured movie featured Zack Amata, a renowned personality in Nigeria’s film industry, and other cast and crew members, chiefly Igede cultural enthusiasts, including Joy Ugbem, Eunice Agu, Grace Ukoh, M.C Krist, Andrew Adima, Ogbaji Ukenya, Geetee Peters, Princess Joy Ijege, and Joel Erebe, among many others.
The long-anticipated movie is being uploaded to YouTube, Instagram, and other popular social media platforms for wider viewership.
Distinguished guests from all walks of life who graced the auspicious event, including the Benue State Director General, Bureau of Arts, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Shadrach Ukuma, Pastor Ben Opaluwa, among other dignitaries, affirmed that the movie is the first of its kind and the beginning of more such beautiful pieces to come.
