The Benue State Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, Dr. Margaret Adamu, has disclosed that the state government allocated over 25 per cent of its 2026 budget to the education sector.
A press release signed by the Information Officer of the ministry, Dooshima Abuul and made available to The Voice, said Dr. Adamu made the disclosure last Friday in her office, while receiving the leadership of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), who paid her a courtesy visit.
She reiterated the commitment of the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia to revamp the education sector in order to boost school enrolment and improve learning outcomes for students across the state.
The Commissioner noted that the present administration is determined to reposition the education sector to meet international standards in line with Governor Alia’s strategic development plan for the state.
Dr. Adamu assured the delegation of the ministry’s readiness to partner with NAPPS and other relevant stakeholders to achieve sustainable quality education for the Benue child.
She further explained that some educational policies are initiated at the federal level through the Federal Ministry of Education, after which states domesticate and implement them.
According to her, the government cannot achieve its goals alone, and therefore called on relevant agencies, stakeholders and philanthropists to complement government efforts in repositioning the education sector. She also promised to channel the challenges raised by the association to the appropriate authorities.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation and North-Central Zonal President of NAPPS, Rahaman Adetunji, commended the Benue State Government for the ongoing urban renewal and infrastructural development across the state.
Dr. Adetunji, who was in the state as part of a tour of the zone, however decried the numerous challenges facing private school proprietors, including multiple taxation, while appreciating the government for providing an enabling environment for their operations.
In a vote of thanks, the Permanent Secretary in charge of Basic Education in the ministry, Bibiana Tyoishi, appreciated the delegation for the visit and assured them of the ministry’s maximum cooperation.
