The All Progressives Congress (APC) Benue State Governorship Primaries Election Committee has declared Governor Hyacinth Alia the winner of the party’s primary election. With the outcome, Governor Hyacinth Alia will fly the APC flag in the 2027 governorship election.
Announcing the result on Friday at the party secretariat in Makurdi, Chairman of the APC Governorship Primaries Election Committee, Prof. Mohammed Musa, said the incumbent governor polled 367,786 votes. His closest challenger, Terwase Orbunde, secured 3,247 votes, while the other aspirant, Dr. Jeffery Kurauan, obtained 2,923 votes. Prof. Musa was assisted by the committee secretary, Shehu Musa, and other members.
“Governor Reverend Father Hyacinth Iormem Alia, having satisfied all the requirements of the election and secured the highest number of votes, 367,786, is hereby declared the winner of the primaries,” Prof. Musa stated.
Results from the the various local government areas of the indicates that, in Otukpo LGA, Alia polled 14,999 votes, Orbunde had 101 votes, Kurauan had 101 votes, and Mathias Buyuan got 18 votes. In Gboko LGA, Alia secured 23,144 votes, Orbunde 270 votes, and Kurauan 379 votes. In Vandeikya, Alia got 24,209 votes, Orbunde 17 votes, and Kurauan 33 votes.
In Konshisha, Alia polled 18,529 votes, Orbunde 2 votes, and Kurauan 9 votes. In Ado LGA, Alia had 7,822 votes, Orbunde 539 votes, and Kurauan 358 votes. In Kwande LGA, Alia clinched 34,764 votes, Orbunde got 3 votes, and Kurauan recorded no votes. In Logo LGA, Alia received 9,567 votes, Orbunde 17 votes, and Kurauan 26 votes.
In Ukum LGA, Alia had 25,734 votes, Orbunde 528 votes, and Kurauan 476 votes. In Katsina-Ala LGA, Alia polled 34,868 votes, Orbunde 75 votes, and Kurauan 145 votes. In Apa LGA, Alia got 6,752 votes, Orbunde 140 votes, and Kurauan 36 votes. In Oju LGA, Alia secured 9,757 votes, Orbunde 23 votes, and Kurauan 33 votes. In Buruku LGA, Alia polled 25,022 votes, Orbunde 254 votes, and Kurauan 288 votes.
In Ohimini LGA, Alia had 9,474 votes, Orbunde 68 votes, and Kurauan 60 votes. In Makurdi LGA, Alia received 22,543 votes, Orbunde 214 votes, and Kurauan 327 votes. In Guma LGA, Alia clinched 18,361 votes, Orbunde 289 votes, and Kurauan 95 votes. In Okpokwu LGA, Alia got 7,692 votes, Orbunde 113 votes, and Kurauan 124 votes. In Gwer West LGA, Alia had 11,648 votes, Orbunde 42 votes, and Kurauan 33 votes.
In Agatu LGA, Alia polled 9,333 votes, Orbunde 388 votes, and Kurauan 260 votes. In Ogbadibo LGA, Alia secured 9,026 votes, Orbunde 10 votes, and Kurauan 12 votes. In Gwer LGA, Alia got 18,116 votes, Orbunde had no votes, and Kurauan had 9 votes while in Tarka LGA, Alia polled 7,376 votes, Orbunde 55 votes, and Kurauan 159 votes.
Speaking on behalf of the three senatorial zones, representatives affirmed the result and pledged continued support for the governor. Hon. Solomon Wombo, member representing Ukum, Katsina-Ala, and Logo Federal Constituency, spoke for Zone A; former Nigerian Ambassador to Namibia, Hon. Terhemen Tarzoho, spoke for Zone B; and Hon. Wilfred Adagene spoke for Zone C. They said the zones would stand with the governor in his efforts to transform the state.
In his acceptance speech, Governor Alia thanked party members for entrusting him with the party’s ticket for the 2027 election. He pledged to continue driving development in infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, and other sectors.
“I will continue to do everything possible to ensure the people of the state live in a peaceful atmosphere so that our farmers can return to their farms,” he said.
Alia also urged fellow aspirants who contested for National Assembly and State Assembly seats to work together for the progress of the state and the country.
Earlier, APC Benue State Chairman, Dr. Benjamin Omale, commended the electoral committee for conducting a credible process. He expressed confidence that a second term for Governor Alia in 2027 would bring greater development and called on all contestants to support the governor’s agenda.
