The Chairman of Lobi Stars Football Club, Makurdi, Mr. Terver Simon Ikya, along with members of the club’s management, received officials of the Alia Sports Development Initiative, ASDI, on Friday, during a courtesy visit to the club’s secretariat in Makurdi.
During the visit, members of the Initiative, led by its convener, Louis Machocho, presented a comprehensive proposal aimed at reviving, restructuring, and sustaining sports development in Benue State. The proposal also outlined a ₦1.2 billion investment framework designed to drive sports growth across the state.
In his remarks after reviewing the document, the Chairman commended the Initiative for its unity, commitment, and well-articulated vision for the future of sports in Benue. He described the proposal as thoughtful and forward-looking, while highlighting key areas that require further consideration.
Foremost among his recommendations was the need to transform sports administration in Benue State from a department under the Ministry into a full-fledged Sports Commission. According to him, such a structure would enhance efficiency, professionalism, and long-term development. He also applauded the team for its dedication and patriotism, urging them to sustain the momentum and engage other relevant stakeholders to achieve optimal results.
Similarly, the Secretary of Lobi Stars FC, Mr. Terzungwe Ichul, advised the Initiative to consider changing its name from Alia Sports Development Initiative to Benue State Sports Development Initiative in the interest of broader inclusiveness.
“His Excellency is not one to seek personal recognition. His priority is the development of Benue State. Whether his name is attached to the Initiative or not, as long as the vision is for the progress of Benue, he is always willing to support and listen to meaningful ideas,” he said.
The courtesy visit marks another significant milestone in the Initiative’s ongoing stakeholder engagements and reinforces its commitment to building a sustainable and prosperous future for sports development in Benue State.
