The Plateau State Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation has launched the Plateau Science, Technology and Innovation Festival (PLASSTIFEST) in Jos, aiming to showcase the innovative potential of citizens and promote scientific development in the state.
The Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Cletus Bako Shurkuk, disclosed this during a press conference held on Friday in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
According to the commissioner, the state possesses enormous potential for innovation and technological advancement capable of improving the lives of citizens and creating employment opportunities for young people.
“PLASSTIFEST is more than a festival, it is a movement to improve the quality of life for citizens, create employment opportunities by unlocking the talents of our youth, and build a sustainable ecosystem where startups flourish and investors find value,” he said.
Dr. Shurkuk added that the government’s vision is to make Plateau State a leading hub of innovation where technology drives development and young people become job creators rather than job seekers.
“Our vision is clear: to make Plateau a leading hub of innovation where technology drives development, startups thrive, and youth generate jobs rather than seek them,” he stated.
“The time is now to change the narrative of Plateau State and empower our people through innovation.”
The commissioner explained that the festival is the maiden edition and it is aimed at laying a solid foundation for the future of science and technology in the state.
He said the festival carries the theme: “Reimagining Plateau: Driving Innovation and Technology for a Smarter and Sustainable Future.”
Dr. Shurkuk encouraged young people across the state to maximize their talents and creativity for societal development.
“To every young person in Plateau, your ideas and innovations hold the power to transform our state. Let your creativity lead us into a brighter tomorrow,” he said.
He further explained that PLASSTIFEST is designed as a year-long initiative beginning with its official launch on Monday, June 1, 2026.
