SDP gets candidates for 2027 elections in Benue

The Social Democratic Party, SDP, in Benue State has elected candidates for the State and National Assembly elections in 2027. All the candidates emerged through a voice affirmation at the party’s primaries held on Saturday, the 23rd of May, 2026 in Makurdi.

Reacting to the development, the Sole Governorship aspirant of the Party in the forth coming elections in Benue State, Hon. (Chief) Sabastine Hon, SAN, expressed confidence that the party would achieve resounding victory in the general elections.

Chief Hon who spoke immediately after the affirmative votes, said SDP has long been established in the State since the administration of Rev Fr Moses Orshio Adasu by recording unprecedented development indices.

He said the primaries which were through voice affirmation without rancour gave him the confidence that the Benue people would again support SDP to climb to the seat of governance in the State.

” A vote for SDP is a vote for liberation, development and unity, and all the candidates are well prepared and exemplary leaders in their various communities. So they are ready to discharge the duties and responsibilities you will elect them to, come 2027″, he said.

The governorship candidate thanked the members for attending the segment of the electoral process and commended both the national representatives and INEC for their roles.

Earlier, Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Mrs Rosemary Effiong in an opening address sued for civil conduct in the elections explaining that the party was known for order and seamless exercises. ” From the list we have, it is going to be consensus primaries because all the constituencies submitted single aspirants”, she said.

Mrs Effiong therefore charged the would- be-candidates to ensure adequate representation as the party’s ambassadors when eventually voted to office. ” We want to see that SDP goes there and does well for the constituents. Remember what you said you are going to do and let us see that you are working for your people” she advised.

In his closing remarks, the Benue State Chairman of the Social Democratic Party SDP, Hon Engr Itodo Idoko expressed happiness with members of the party for their cooperation, organization and sacrifices that endured the success of the exercise.

He congratulated the candidates who emerged victorious and expressed confidence that “winning” will remain their watch word as they march towards 2027.

Moving the votes for the affirmation of candidates, Hon Lawrence Vihimga, moving for the State Assembly candidates and seconded by Hon Frank Teryima Mayange; Hon (Dr) Jeffrey Akper moving for House of Representatives candidates and seconded by Hon. Ogbada Ugwo Vivien and Hon Hembanzan Igbasue Moses moving for the Senate and seconded by Hon Tsendiir Vitalis, all called for the affirmation of candidates who have been duly screened and cleared by the party for the respective offices.
