The Central Planning Committee of the 2026 annual festival of the Mwaghavul people, the ethnic group of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has announced preparations for the highly anticipated “Puus Kaat” festival. Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Chief Jeremiah Satmark, disclosed that the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has been invited to attend this year’s festival of the Mwaghavul-speaking people in central Plateau State.
Satmark made this known on Friday during a press conference held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau State Council, in Jos, as part of efforts to ensure a successful hosting of the Puus Kaat festival.
“The Puus Kaat Festival is presented as a living tribute to the heritage, steadfast values, and renowned hospitality of the Mwaghavul people, serving as a beacon of unity and identity,” he said.
Speaking on the security of lives and property, Satmark, who also serves as Chief of Staff to Governor Caleb Mutfwang, assured that all events lined up for the festival would be adequately secured.
He further revealed that the 2026 theme, “Mwaghavul Heritage, Digital Future: Preserving Culture Through Innovation,” underscores a commitment to safeguarding ancestral legacy while embracing modern innovation. “This year’s Puus Kaat aims to elevate the experience by showcasing resilience and a vibrant cultural spirit,” he added.
According to the committee, activities lined up for the festival include a 21-kilometre marathon open to both men and women, a free medical outreach for less privileged persons, a symposium, the traditional intellectual game known as “Tubbwor,” and a beauty pageant to crown the most beautiful Mwaghavul maiden.
