Former Acting Governor of Taraba State, Alhaji Garuba Umar, popularly known as UTC, has formally declared his intention to contest the Taraba North Senatorial District, Zone A, seat in the 2027 general elections on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Alhaji Umar who made the declaration on Wednesday in Jalingo, the state capital, stated that his decision to run was informed by compelling reasons to bring innovation and the dividends of democracy to the zone in the shortest possible time if elected. He cited his track record as Acting Governor as proof of his capacity to deliver.
Alhaji Umar said he is not unaware of the numerous challenges facing the zone but expressed confidence in his ability to address them squarely if given the mandate. He called on the people to vote for him, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Agbu Kefas for a second term as Governor of Taraba State, and all APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
The Chairman of the occasion, Pharmacist Oliver Wopeon, described Alhaji Garuba Umar as “tested and trusted” among all the aspirants. He urged the people of Zone A to vote for Governor Agbu Kefas, UTC, and all APC candidates in the forthcoming polls.
Wopeon added that UTC’s track record, dating back to his tenure as Acting Governor, reflects his commitment to infrastructure development, justice, and fairness for all Tarabans. He maintained that UTC remains a trusted leader capable of ensuring fair representation.
Also speaking, the Secretary of the Alhaji Umar UTC Organisation, popularly known as UTCAYA, Dr. Jinadu Garvey Yawe, described UTC’s emergence as “the best thing to happen to the people of Zone A” if elected in 2027. By a ballot, he said, UTC has proven himself as a trusted leader with the capacity to bring rapid development and unity to the zone.
Dr. Yawe further assured the people of Zone A that the UTCAYA organisation would purchase the nomination form for UTC when the time comes.
The Voice also learnt that no fewer than eight aspirants have indicated interest in the Taraba North Senatorial District seat ahead of the 2027 general elections. They include Alhaji Umar UTC, Alhaji Danladi Contact, and former Governor Jolly Nyame, among others.
