The Alago Support Group for IGP Adamu has formally endorsed former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar Adamu (Rtd), as its consensus candidate for Governor ahead of the 2027 Nasarawa State gubernatorial race.
The endorsement took place during a political rally held on Monday in Doma Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
Delivering his address, the Leader and Convener of the group, Danjuma Joseph, revealed that the movement was conceived alongside Barrister Samuel Obeka to ensure the Alago people are involved in Nasarawa State’s political future.
Joseph noted that the initiative gained momentum after securing the sponsorship and backing of retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Mohammed Ari.
Justifying the decision to back the former police chief, Joseph cited Adamu’s public service records and personal ties with the Alago people.
”When we harmonised this vision, we brought in more persons of like minds. We undertook a thorough political and moral interrogation and found in him a man of proven integrity, impeccable track records, and uncommon patriotism.
”IGP Adamu is not a stranger to Alago land. He shares deep historical and blood affinity with us. He schooled with many prominent sons and daughters of Alago in primary and Government Secondary School, Obi. He is our own and we have no reason whatsoever to let our own down,” Joseph stated.
Addressing internal political differences within the ethnic group, Joseph likened the political landscape to a traditional hunting expedition.
”We have a few Alago sons and daughters supporting different aspirants but our ultimate goal is one, the progress of the Alago nation. Whoever catches the game, we shall all return home and share the meat as brothers and sisters,” he noted, emphasising that Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution guarantees freedom of association.
Declaring the gathering a formal covenant, Joseph pronounced the traditional Alago blessing: “Alago dawo, Owuso dawo” (Alago has given you, and God has given you the Governorship of Nasarawa State in 2027).
The group announced plans to expand its campaign beyond the southern zone, establishing structures across electoral wards in Nasarawa North and Nasarawa West Senatorial Districts where Alago populations reside.
Corroborating the declaration, DIG Mohammed Ari (Rtd) affirmed that the gathering represented a unified front of Alago communities spanning Keana, Obi, Agwatashi, Aloshi, Assakio, and surrounding areas.
Speaking to the crowd, Ari praised Adamu’s philanthropic contributions across the state:
”The Alago people are deciding, speaking from depth, that you are the candidate they have endorsed. We have a conglomeration of Alago people from Keana, Awai, Obi, Agwatashi, Aloshi, and all other locations… All of them have come to give you all the necessary assurances that Alago Nation has accepted and adopted you as the next incoming executive governor of Nasarawa State.
”People are very happy with you because of your humanitarian gestures. Imagining that you are not yet taking over and you are performing the way you are performing… By the time this man assumes office finally as the governor of this state, we must have been prepared for the wonderful job you are going to do,” he said.
Responding to the endorsement, IGP Adamu (Rtd) stated:”Wherever the foot is paralysed, we came out for someone whose election is for the poor. We came out to seek for the poor, so that we can see to it that the struggling poor person does not continue to suffer the way he is suffering now.
”Women, children, and youths are suffering because of the government, which is not paying attention to the public. So, we have come to put the lives of the people first. And we have come forward to ensure that quality education is given to our people, that our people get quality healthcare, and regarding gatherings/welfare, we will see that everyone gets it,” Adamu said.
He urged supporters to safeguard their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) against exploitation or voter fraud, expressing confidence in his electoral prospects and promising that his administration will prioritise equity and growth across every region of Nasarawa State.
As part of the proceedings, the Alago support group presented a Special Award of Honour to the former IGP’s wife, Hajiya Rukayya Adamu (Kwaliyyar Lafia), in recognition of her philanthropic and humanitarian outreach across Nasarawa State.
