The All Progressives Congress (APC), North-Central zone has unanimously declared support for the reelection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The endorsement took place during a mega political rally at Lafia Square in Nasarawa State on Saturday.
Governor Abdullahi Sule, who heads the North Central Progressive Governors Forum was the key host of the event.
Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and leader of the party in the zone, presented the motion for the adoption of President Bola Tinubu, seconded by Governor Sule and consequently passed via a voice vote.
Outlining the rationale for the endorsement, Akume pointed to the administration’s economic restructuring, nationwide infrastructure projects, and support for fiscal federalism.
He specifically highlighted key initiatives such as fuel subsidy removal, highway development, expanded revenue allocations to lower tiers of government, and the launch of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
The SGF also called on Northern political figures to honour the power-rotation convention established in 1999, which mandates alternating presidential terms between the North and South.
“By the authority of this great congregation, I, Senator George Akume, do now propose this very important and historic motion that the people of the North Central states, meeting here, have resolved that come 2027, our sole candidate for that election is His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. There is no other candidate,” Akume declared.
In his seconding speech, Governor Sule noted that the President’s governance in the realm of economic management, education, and infrastructure justified the region’s backing.
He cited gains in foreign reserves, higher crude oil output, stock market growth, and student loan access as clear evidence of advancement.
“I, Engineer Abdullahi A. Sule, the Governor of Nasarawa State, second the motion that all the APC North Central States of Benue, Plateau, Niger, Kogi, Kwara and Nasarawa, as well as the FCT, endorse Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term,” Sule stated.
Following the motion’s passage, Akume formally confirmed its adoption and urged party members to turn the resolution into electoral victory.
Addressing APC supporters, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu encouraged supporters to actively communicate the government’s achievements to local communities, emphasising that continuous public engagement is vital ahead of 2027.
She said that the country is transitioning from policy reforms towards tangible prosperity, referencing welfare programmes for women and children, student financial aid, and economic stabilisation measures.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a leader who is very bold and not afraid to take difficult decisions. He is a leader who can be trusted to lead us to prosperity,” she said, and advocated for intra-party solidarity to secure success for all APC candidates nationwide.
Speaking for the Progressives Governors Forum and campaign leadership, the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma noted that the gathering served to evaluate regional readiness for the 2027 polls.
He urged stakeholders to resolve internal conflicts and foster inclusivity, assuring that all 31 APC governors stand behind the President’s mandate.
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang emphasised that the zone came together to recognise federal contributions toward regional growth, pointing to local highway developments and relief interventions for vulnerable and displaced populations in his state.
Similarly, Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu, the party’s 2027 gubernatorial candidate in Nasarawa, credited federal policy with recent economic progress, emphasizing solid mineral development and the elevation of the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, to a specialised university of mining and technology.
Earlier in his opening remarks, Governor Sule charged party members throughout the geopolitical zone to coordinate efforts across all levels, promising that Nasarawa State would deliver bloc votes for the President and all APC flagbearers.
The party stalwarts equally called for grassroots mobilisation, cohesion and sustained voter outreach as a build up to the 2027 general election.
All the governors from Nasarawa, Benue, Niger, and Plateau States and official representatives from Kwara and Kogi attended the event.
