….Says it has 5 Million Capacity Support
The Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) has announced the departure of the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the 2023 Presidential elections, Mr. Peter Obi, to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
COPDEM National Chairman, Prince Rwang Pam Jr, made the decision of Mr. Peter Obi public during a press conference on Thursday, held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Plateau state council, Jos, North Central Nigeria.
“Today, with deep conviction and great optimism, we welcome Mr. Peter Obi into the African Democratic Congress (ADC)—a party that has consistently stood for integrity, inclusion, accountability, and people-centered governance,” Prince Rwang Pam said.
According to the coalition, the decision of the former LP Presidential candidate to join ADC was apt and a welcome development for Nigerian democracy.
Prince Rwang Pam noted that “Mr. Peter Obi’s entrance into the ADC is not merely a political movement; it is a statement of conscience. It is a declaration that Nigeria can no longer afford politics without principle, leadership.”
Reading the text of the press conference further, the National Chairman of COPDEM, Prince Rwang Pam Jr, notified journalists that Peter Obi has made the right decision by joining ADC as a party, also noting that COPDEM has over 5 million members across Nigeria.
The group spoke on behalf of the African Democratic Congress: “COPDEM is hereby assuring you—Your Excellency—that you are not alone in ADC; the over 5 million members are with you.”
Recall that Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State, adjudged to have performed better than most of his predecessors in the state, contested the 2023 Presidential elections but lost to President Bola Tinubu. There were insinuations that Obi’s victory during the 2023 elections was thwarted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which he petitioned, claiming his mandate was stolen.
With the development, Mr. Peter Obi might be planning to re-contest the 2027 Presidential elections, should ADC give him its presidential ticket.
