The Tiv Youth Organization (TYO) Lagos Chapter has strongly condemned the horrific attacks on communities in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.
The President, Hon. Joseph Nande (Joe Nes), in a statement he made available to The Voice dated 6th March , 2026, on behalf of the organization expressed profound grief and outrage over the resumption of large-scale violence in the Kwande axis. He described the attack as not just a breach of peace, but a direct assault on the existence of the Tiv nation
“We are plunged into deep mourning yet again. The news of the massacre in Tyungo Jam and Mbaav communities is a devastating reminder that our people in Benue are sitting ducks for these marauding killers,” Hon. Nande stated.
The President expressed worry at what he termed the “unacceptable silence and inaction” from authorities noting that despite the recurring nature of these incidents, there appears to be a lack of a decisive security response from them.
“While we condemn these wicked killers and their sponsors, our wrath today is equally directed at both the State and federal governmens. For years, our people have been killed, raped, and displaced. We have cried out, we have held prayers, and we have held peaceful protests. Yet, nothing concrete has been done to stop this genocide,” he fumed.
Hon. Nande questioned the absence of security personnel in the vast farmlands and communities of Kwande and emphasized that the primary responsibility of any government is the security of lives and property.
“The Federal Government talks about food security, yet they watch the farmers being killed on their farms.This negligence is a betrayal of the oath of office,” he added.
TYO, Lagos Chapter therefore demanded that there should be immediate deployment of mobile police forces and military personnel to the Kwande axis to flush out the hideouts of the armed herders to prevent further break down of law and order.
The group also demanded a swift investigation to identify, arrest, and prosecute the perpetrators and their sponsors and the immediate provision of relief materials and medical assistance to the injured while compensation should be given to the families of the deceased.
The statement further condoled the affected families and the Mbadura and Yaav Traditional Councils and urged youths in the affected communities to remain calm but vigilant, assuring them that TYO, Lagos chapter stands in solidarity with their struggles for survival.
“We will not be silenced. We will continue to speak until the killings stop and our people return to their farms in peace,” the statement added.
