The Benue State House of Assembly has passed into law a total of Six Hundred and Ninety-Five Billion, Eleven Million, Two Hundred and Thirty-Seven Thousand, Six Hundred and Eighty-Seven Naira, Twenty-Eight Kobo (₦695,011,237,687.28) as the State 2026 Budget.
According to the Budget, Recurrent Expenditure stands at Three Hundred and Thirteen Billion, Ninety-Eight Million, Eight Hundred and Seventy-Four Thousand, Six Hundred and Eighty-Three Naira, Thirty-Two Kobo (₦313,098,874,683.32) only, while the Capital Expenditure stands at Three Hundred and Eighty-One Billion, Nine Hundred and Twelve Million, Three Hundred and Sixty-Three Thousand, Three Naira, Ninety-Five Kobo (₦381,912,363,003.95) only, totalling ₦695,011,237,687.28. The Deficit Financing and revenue sources stand at ₦25,771,223,080.
The House passed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law during Wednesday’s Plenary held at the Hallowed Chamber, Benue State House of Assembly, Makurdi, and presided over by the Speaker, Right Honourable Alfred Emberga.
Earlier, in a Committee of Supply to consider the Budget clause by clause, Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Appropriation, Hon. Isaac Ochekliye, represented by the Vice Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Douglas Akya, said the Committee, through its findings and recommendations, increased the Budget above the total amount earlier presented by the Governor, in order for the State to redouble its developmental strides.
Also, in their contributions, the Majority Leader and Minority Leader, Honourables Thomas Dugeri and Abu Umoru, respectively, stated that the additional finances to the Budget above the total figure the State Governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, presented to the House, is to enable the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC), and others to work effectively for the greater transformation of the State.
The Speaker, Right Honourable Alfred Emberga, who presided over the Plenary, called the Clerk, Dr. Bem Mela, to read the Bill for the third time, which was obliged, and it was passed into Law.
It could be recalled that Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, on Monday last week, presented the state’s 2026 Budget estimates in the sum of Six Hundred and Five Billion, Five Hundred and Six Million, Seven Hundred and Sixty-Four Thousand, and Sixty-Six Naira, Sixteen Kobo (₦605,506,764,066.16), before the Members of the Benue State House of Assembly, in Makurdi.
Presenting the budget, christened “Budget of Rural Development, Livelihood Support and Sustained Growth,” Governor Alia explained that it is a deliberate strategy aimed at repositioning the state’s economy towards improving the living standards of the people of the State.
